Deciding to get a breast augmentation is a huge decision. There are a lot of things you can do to prepare yourself for after the surgery. Use this guide to help insure your healing process is as easy as it can be.

Spruce your Space

First of all, you’ll want to make sure that you have a nice, clean home. Who wants to heal in a cluttered house, when you can’t do anything about it? Sounds like my worst nightmare. Get all your laundry done, including all your bedding. Having a fresh bed spread can make all the difference.

The Essentials

Also, it’s a great idea to stock up on anything you might need during recovery. Think of things you use on a regular basis. For example, lip balm and tissues will definitely come in handy. Put a basket on your bedside table full of your essentials. That way, anything you might want will be within arms reach. In addition, you may want to keep an extra set of batteries on hand, just in case the remote needs them for instance.

Pillow Talk

Get yourself a lot of pillows, you’ll need them. Most surgeons are going to recommend that you keep yourself propped up for the first couple days. They usually say a 45 degree angle is best. Angling your pillows in this fashion will help reduce swelling and bruising after surgery. Additionally, be sure to place pillows on either side of your body so you don’t roll over accidentally.

Comfy Cotton

After surgery, you’re not going to be able to wear whatever you want. For instance, wearing a hoodie may be comfortable while it’s on, but getting it off is the problem. Imagine trying to lift your arms to pull it up and over your head. That’s not going to happen. Picking out items of clothing that button or zip up are great. That way when you need to change it’ll be that much easier for you to do so.

Food Prep

Have you ever seen those lists of easy freezer meals that you just pop into a crock pot? That is a great idea for meals after your surgery. You will definitely not feel like spending a ton of time on the kitchen. Nor should you, especially if you’re on painkillers. Stock your kitchen with easy to prep or no prep foods. Not only that, but consider products that will get things moving in your nether regions. The mixture of pain meds can cause constipation, and is not a welcome addition to any recovery. Be sure to drink lots of water, and incorporate high fiber foods into your diet.

Become Buddies with your Bra

Don’t get too excited about all the cute new bras you’ll get to wear. While that is certainly something to look forward to, it won’t be possible during recovery. Most plastic surgeons require that you wear a special bra after surgery. The amount of time you’ll spend in your special bra varies depending on the surgeon. So make nice!

Ice Ice Baby

This seems like a no brainer, but absolutely make sure you have ice packs ready in your freezer. Cold helps reduce the swelling and pain. It’s recommended that you keep four ice packs on hand. Use two at a time, and two will be ready in the freezer.

Baby or Pet Sitting

If you’ve got little ones running around, child or animal, you’re going to need help caring for them. Secure a friend or family member who can take the dog for walks, bring your child to soccer practice, and overall make sure they’re getting everything they need.
