Jessi’s Rhinoplasty Surgery

Jessi’s surgery

Jessi is getting a rhinoplasty and a septoplasty from Dr. Broadway. Before Jessi’s surgery, she had one last visit with Dr. Broadway. This meeting helps clarify the goals of the procedure and is an opportunity to ask any last minute questions. It’s normal to be nervous during this time. Jessi expresses her excitement for the procedure to be over with.

The goal

Jessi wants to change the tip of her nose. This was possible because she doesn’t have any tip support there, unlike Dr. Broadway. In the video, you can see Dr. Broadway and Jessi touching the tips of each of their noses. Dr. Broadway has supporting bone and cartilage behind the tip of his nose. Jessi doesn’t have the supporting tissue, so the tip of her nose felt squishier. This means her nose could be reconstructed without as much bone and cartilage work.

The anesthesia

Rhinoplasty requires either local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on the procedure. Jessi is given general anesthesia while Dr. Broadway performed her septoplasty and rhinoplasty procedures. To ensure everything goes well, Jessi’s nurse asks her about whether or not she’s wearing contacts, if she has metal implants in her body, and how long it’s been since she ate. Jessi’s rhinoplasty was done as an outpatient procedure so she went home to recover. Some patients may be required to stay overnight in the hospital.

The operation

During the operation, Dr. Broadway makes incisions in Jessi’s nose to have access to the underlying bone and cartilage. Typically these cuts are made from the inside to reduce scarring. Dr. Broadway reshapes the structure of Jessi’s nose to correct her deviated septum. In some cases, bone and cartilage are removed or added to the patient’s nose. Dr. Broadway makes adjustments to the shape of Jessi’s nose as he puts the nose skin back into place. After Jessi’s nose is all stitched up, it’s secured with a splint. This offers the new nose support and protection while it heals.
