What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is more commonly known as a “nose job.” Thousands of people have turned to Rhinoplasty surgery to enhance the size and shape of their nose. If you are unhappy with your nose and how it “fits” your face, this might be a good option for you.
How long does it take to see results?
Patients will be able to enjoy the results of Rhinoplasty surgery within weeks. However, final and optimal results will not be seen until 12-18 months post-surgery.
Am I a good candidate for Rhinoplasty?
The best way to know if you are a good candidate for this or any other plastic surgery is to make a consultation with a board-certified surgeon. That being said, here are some general guidelines you can use to determine if you are a good candidate:
- Do you have a deformity or imperfection that you wish to correct with surgery?
- Do you have a breathing problem that would be best corrected with rhinoplasty surgery?
- Have you done some research or spoken with someone to make sure you have realistic expectations of the surgery?
Can Rhinoplasty improve my breathing?
Rhinoplasty can be used to help straighten and/or enlarge a person’s air passages to allow for increased airflow through the nose. This can improve your breathing. You may also want to consider combining this surgery with a septoplasty.
What is a deviated septum?
The septum is the “wall” made of cartilage and bone between your right and left nasal air passages. A deviated septum can occur at birth, but it can also be caused by injury. If the septum becomes deviated, it may partially block airflow on one side of the airway.
Can Rhinoplasty decrease the size of my nose?
Rhinoplasty can decrease the size of the nose by removing a hump or refining the tip. If the nose tip is droopy or hanging, elevating the tip and rotating it up will shorten the nose, making it appear smaller.
What can I expect during a Rhinoplasty consultation?
During a rhinoplasty consultation, you will be given the opportunity to discuss your concerns and desires for improving the appearance and function of the nose. A surgical plan will be developed to address your goals and many of these goals can then be demonstrated on the computer giving you a visual expectation for a surgical result.
Where will the actual Rhinoplasty procedure be performed?
Rhinoplasty is always performed in a fully accredited and licensed facility.. This assures our patients’ safety as well as quality of care will be at the highest level
What type of anesthesia is used for Rhinoplasty?
All types of anesthesia are available for rhinoplasty.
Local anesthesia, with the patient awake is typically reserved for minor nasal tip surgery.
Local with IV sedation (twilight anesthesia) is more commonly recommended. The patient is asleep throughout the procedure. This type of anesthesia is usually reserved for rhinoplasties scheduled for a shorter period of time. A board certified anesthesiologist will be administering your anesthesia.
How long does the Rhinoplasty procedure take?
The time required to perform a rhinoplasty usually varies from 1-4 hours depending on many factors.
A tipplasty which is an adjustment focused on the nasal tip can be performed with local anesthesia may require only a few minutes. A closed rhinoplasty (all internal incisions) usually requires less time than an open rhinoplasty procedure.
A rhinoplasty that requires cartilage grafts, especially if the cartilage donor site is not the septum will require more time.
