Broadway Plastic Surgery Inverted Nipple Surgery FAQs
These are questions about our process and about the procedure in general.
What are inverted nipples?
Inverted nipples usually appear as either flat or indented. This is typically caused when breast ligaments and ducts are smaller than average and pull the nipples inward. This surgery adjusts them so that they protrude to appear more like traditional nipples.
Why do I have inverted nipples?
It is possible that you were born with inverted nipples but did not notice until after puberty. However, some people’s bodies change and inverted nipples show up after breastfeeding, pregnancy, breast cancer, or any type of injury to that part of the body.
Who is a good candidate for inverted nipple surgery?
Inverted nipple surgery is so quick and simple that pretty much anyone with at least one inverted nipple can be a candidate. Get a personal consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to make sure it is right for you.
What is involved in the surgery?
Inverted nipple surgery can differ slightly from person to person. The most common method uses only local anesthesia and a small incision at the bottom of the nipple. The ligaments or whatever are pulling on your nipple are released, then allowing your nipple to take its originally-intended form. This surgery can take less than an hour.
Are there any risks involved with inverted nipple surgery?
There are risks with any surgery, no matter how major or minor. This is no different for inverted nipple correction. Of course, these risks are less likely when you use a trained and certified surgeon.
It is normal to experience bruising or swelling after the surgery. It can take some time to see the final shape and look of your nipple(s).
How long is recovery from nipple correction surgery?
Recovery from surgery differs from person to person. The average timeline we see for full recovery from inverted nipple surgery is about two weeks. You should be able to return to work the following day, but there are certain restrictions for the first two weeks (like no vigorous activity).
Can I use insurance to cover nipple correction surgery?
Inverted nipple correction surgery is typically viewed as purely cosmetic by most insurance companies. We recommend checking with your insurance directly. We do have financing options available for those who need them.
