Silicone Vs. Saline Breast Implants:
Silicone (Gel) Breast Implants 101:
Advantages: Gel implants are slightly lighter for the same amount of volume. They also have less risk of rippling and wrinkling. Lastly, gel implants tend to have a more natural feel, lower failure rate and lower infection rate.
Disadvantages: Gel implants might require a longer incision, slightly more expensive, FDA recommends ocassional MRIs to check on the status of the shell.
Saline Implants 101:
Advantages: Smaller incision, slightly less expensive
Disadvantages: Doesn’t feel as natural as a gel implant. Saline breast implants also have a higher risk of rippling, wrinkling, failure and infections.
