No pain, no gain may be the uncomfortable truth for women preparing for breast augmentation. But, the pain is short-lived and well-tolerated by the majority of women.

Our goal is to help our patients recover as quickly as possible! Usually within a few days, you are back to normal activities! Starting with your decision to schedule surgery at Broadway Plastic Surgery, we begin the process of helping you to recover quickly. Encouraging you to stop smoking, and to continue on with a sound nutritional program is part of the plan. We will begin antibacterial scrubs and nasal ointments to decrease the risk of infection beginning the week of surgery. Intraoperatively, we use a long acting local anesthetics that will help you to begin moving and stretching even in the recovery area. Early motion will minimize discomfort and help you to return to your normal activities which should occur within the first week. We expect you to be off all pain medication very quickly.

To help prevent swelling, reduce your salt intake, and drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Be careful to avoid the diuretics found in so many ordinary foods and drinks. Caffeine, alcohol, and many herbals can dehydrate you. Maintaining your hydration is essential for healing and for beautiful skin.

Exercise should be gentle but regular. Moving and walking will help increase circulation needed for healing, and will reduce the chances of blood clots forming. To minimize pain and encourage healing, avoid lifting, bending or straining until Dr. Broadway says you are ready for the increased stress on your body.
