Fall is in full force, and everyone’s favorite fruit (yes, it’s technically a fruit) is back! Pumpkin is everywhere: from your lattes to your muffins to your front porches. Now it can even be a part of your skincare! Best of all, you can ditch the department store and make all your products right in your own kitchen. This week’s blog presents some DIY options to make pumpkin a staple of your fall skincare routine.

Note: Canned pumpkin puree is fine, but you can make your own with fresh pumpkin! Just cut one in half, remove the pulp and seeds, cover the halves in foil, and bake at 325 degrees for about an hour. Then you’ll be able to scrape the meat from the shell and blend.

Product: Pumpkin Body Scrub
Recipe: 1/2 cup cooked pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon or all spice

This easy scrub smells delicious, is 100% natural, and is completely safe to use on your whole body. The pumpkin puree is packed with vitamins to sooth skin damaged by the dry autumn air, the spice increases blood flow, and the coarse brown sugar will help slough away dry patches. Seal it in a mason jar to keep it fresh for the entire season.

Product: Pumpkin Foot Mask
Recipe: 1 egg, 1/2 cup pumpkin puree, 1 tsp honey

Whisk all ingredients together until fully combined. Apply the mask to your feet and calves, wrap them in plastic bags, then kick them up and turn on Hocus Pocus. You should let the mask set for at least 15 minutes, but if you get too wrapped up in the movie, that’s okay. Rinse with warm water to reveal soft skin!

Product: Pumpkin Moisturizer
Recipe: 1/2 cup pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup coconut oil, 1/2 tsp cinnamon or all spice

Simply combine all ingredients and rub it on; this recipe is that simple. You’ll want to store this mixture in the fridge to help it keep, but with just a small dollop your skin will feel fresh and smooth. Added bonus, to make a lip scrub just mix in a bit of finely granulated sugar. Rub it into your lips and wash (read: lick) the excess off for soft, plump lips.

Product: Pumpkin Face Mask
Recipe: 1/4 cup pumpkin puree, 1 tsp pumpkin seed oil. For oily skin add 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar and an egg yolk. For dry skin add a splash of heavy cream.

Combine all ingredients for a rich facial mask. Apply a thick layer to the face and let it set for 20 minutes. The oily skin recipe will help strip excess oils from the skin, while the dry skin formula will help nourish the face. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Use this regularly for a flawless fall face!

All of these options will help nourish and smooth the skin while making you smell like a perfect pumpkin princess. Let us know in the comments which of these recipes you’re going to try first!
