Vaginal Rejuvenation – Which Treatment is Right for You?
Media from the offices of Broadway
As we become more and more comfortable talking about issues of intimacy and intimate health, we are hearing the term “Vaginal Rejuvenation” more frequently. While that term is a marketing term and not a medical one, coined mostly by the non-invasive device manufacturers, it also applies to surgical remedies. The treatments and procedures are designed to target symptoms many women experience as they get older, such as incontinence, vaginal laxity, vaginal sensitivity changes, lubrication depletion, and even the aesthetic appearance of the labia. Those symptoms and issues can be caused by child birth, trauma, chemical changes, or general issues resulting from aging. The good news, is that all of these symptoms can be successfully treated!
At Broadway Plastic Surgery and Broadway Skin Essentials, we offer surgical options, but we also offer Viveve radio frequency treatment for our patients, which we believe is the best non-surgical option available today. It is important to understand the differences between the treatment options when choosing which one is right for you.
Laser Treatments
These treatments are done with the use of a probe that is inserted into the vagina. The vaginal tissue is heated, which generates collagen, plumps the tissue, and shrinks the surrounding skin. An anesthetic is required for each treatment and multiple treatments are needed for best results. The risks can include discomfort, cramping, spotting, swelling, and even burns, due to the treatment itself. Patients should abstain from vaginal penetration of any kind for several days after each treatment and healing and recovery should be complete in several days.

Radio Frequency Treatments
These treatments also require the use of a probe or device that is inserted into the vagina. Pulses of energy are released, which also heat the tissue and activate the collagen production in the vaginal tissue. The Viveve system is the only device that delivers a patented cryogen cooling element which protects vaginal tissue and prevents the risk of a burn that is possible with any other laser or radio frequency procedure. A topical anesthetic is required only for the treatment of the labia and vulva, but no anesthetic is required for the vagina itself. Only one session is required, which takes 45 minutes to an hour. There is no down-time. Patients should also abstain from any type of vaginal penetration for two days, and healing should be complete within a few days.
Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is the surgical removal of excess labia tissue. Excess or elongated labia can cause discomfort for some women, during intimate moments and also during normal everyday activities. Sometimes, this procedure is desired purely for aesthetic reasons. Whatever the patient’s reasons for wanting it, Labiaplasty is still the best and most effective way to permanently treat and remove excess labia tissue. The procedure duration depends upon the patient’s particular needs and recovery is usually complete within a few weeks.
Cost
Vaginal laser treatment – $1,250 per treatment, $3,750 – $5,000 for 3 treatments.
Viveve radio frequency treatment – $2,500 – $3,000. Only one treatment is required.
