Online Consultations During COVID-19 Shelter-In-Place
Media from the offices of Broadway
In this unusual era of social distancing due to COVID-19, we have found a way that we can remain connected to our patients and plan for the future. We now offer online consultations with our patients. In the plastic surgery community, this concept was beginning to evolve prior to the virus, but the situation has accelerated its need and validity. Physicians from around the country, including Denver plastic surgeons, were beginning to experiment with various options for virtual meetings and consultations and discovering which of these platforms were HIPAA compliant. Many online consultation platforms allow for private and secure communication with our patients.
At Broadway Plastic Surgery, we now offer follow-up visits as well as new patient online virtual consultations. Our introduction to this type of consultation has gone surprisingly well. These new patient online consultations can often also offer a 3-dimensional view of views of post-surgery expectations, which is especially useful for breast augmentation patients. Breast augmentation online consultations can show the potential results of breast implant surgery using a variety of implant shapes and sizes, all in the comfort of the patient’s own home.
Although our practice has used office-based 3-D imaging for many years, we have expanded the use of this technology for our online consultations, and it is a beneficial tool. Even in this unusual era of social distancing, this is one of the many things we have learned, which will help us be more efficient for our patients in the future and might allow us to offer a more comfortable process. It is something we have implemented now, but plan to keep in the future as an option for patients who prefer it.
