Ready to Get Back Your Pre-Baby Body?
The holidays are over and now is a perfect time to do something for yourself!
Often after pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, a new mother feels as though the body she once had has disappeared, never to return. Moms unhappy with post-pregnancy bodies are turning to plastic surgery now more than ever, according to plastic surgery experts.
So, what is a mommy makeover?
Typically, it is a combination of various surgeries – breast lift and/or breast augmentation (to reshape and restore curves), liposuction (to remove excess fat and help with body contouring), a tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) (to remove excess skin and tighten the abdomen) and the Geneveve™ System to renew and rejuvenate.
Is a mommy makeover right for me?
If you are looking for a solution to get your body back to what it once was, a mommy makeover might be right for you. But, here are a few questions to ask yourself:
- Am I physically healthy and at a stable weight?
- Do I have excess stomach fat that just won’t go away, even with a diet and exercise program?
- Do I have loose and droopy skin around my stomach?
- Are my breasts are smaller or sagging?
If you answered yes, then a mommy makeover might be the way to go. Although the surgeries can help a mom achieve her desired look, there are a few considerations to take into account before the procedure:
#1. Surgery won’t replace living a healthy lifestyle
It is important to begin and maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen prior to and after your surgery to keep the body you desire.
#2. Are you done having children?
While you can still have children after a mommy makeover, it is important to realize that your body will go through many changes during pregnancy and may reverse some of the contouring created by the surgeries. It is usually recommended to wait until you are done having children to have a mommy makeover.
#3. You’ll need to take time for rest and recovery
It is usually more cost-effective to have multiple surgeries at once versus one at a time, but it also means you’ll need to take time and rest. You will need to make sure you have a loved one there to help you 24/7 for the first three days after surgery. It’s also a good idea to have someone available to help care for your children post-surgery.
You’ve decided to move forward with the mommy makeover – what now?
First, you’ll want to find a board-certified plastic surgeon and book your consultation. During this time, the doctor will discuss the procedure(s) with you and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you have. After your consultation, you can book your surgery.
Next, you’ll want to prepare for your surgery. Plan to take some time off of work and make sure you have someone with you to drive you home and care for you for at least 48-72 hours, as well as help with childcare.
The surgery typically takes a couple of hours and, after the procedure, you stay for a couple additional hours before you head home.
After your surgery, you’ll want to take time to rest and recover. You’ll begin to notice changes in the first few weeks and after a few months, you will see the final result of your mommy makeover. Remember, it is best to follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions to ensure a speedy recovery and get the look that you desire.
